Know Thy Enemy: Beating Big Tobacco

May 13, 2012 No comments

In the last few months, the electronic cigarette business has been facing adversity left and right from government bans in different places. Mostly in North America, the majority of the bans aren’t all that bad, regulating electronic cigarette use in much the same way as ordinary tobacco cigarettes. This basically means having to acquire licenses to sell electronic cigarettes in some states, prohibiting their sale to minors, and banning their use in public areas.

Electronic Cigarettes: Kick the Habit and Maintain a Working Memory

April 28, 2012 No comments

Electronic cigarettes can help smokers maintain working memory.Memory problems are a commonly associated side-effect of smoking withdrawal. With your brain receiving less of the chemical it has relied on for years for to maintain its balance, anxiety and restlessness develop that can make it harder for you to concentrate on what you are doing and recall things you have tried to remember.

A recent study conducted in the United Kingdom and presented at the British Psychological Society’s Annual Conferences has, however, shown that using electronic cigarettes, a smoker can get both relief from the symptoms of withdrawal syndrome and help the quitter maintain a working memory.

Another Word of Warning

It was just a few weeks ago that we wrote about a man named Tom Holloway in our post Electronic Cigarettes: To Mod or Not to Mod. Just recently, we found out about another man who had an electronic cigarette explode in his face, and this time the culprit was not a modified electronic cigarette, but a third-party battery – which technically qualifies it as a mod even if the electronic cigarette itself was not modified.

Here at TigCig, we design the batteries for our electronic cigarettes to withstand quite a bit of abuse from users. But batteries are prone to aging and, with improper use and care, an electronic cigarette battery can end up lasting for only a very short while. Our experience in electronic sales has taught us quite a bit about our customer’s habits when using our electronic cigarettes, and we thought it a good idea to fill everyone in on how to make your electronic cigarettes last longer and perform better for a longer period of time.

Harm Reduction vs. Full-on Abstinence

By Red Cruz April 8, 2012 No comments

For as long as electronic cigarettes have been available on the market, concern has been raised about their safety. Most of the debates about their safety are centered on the issue of reducing the potential harm of nicotine products on smokers versus encouraging smokers to adopt an attitude of full-on abstinence when it comes to trying to quit smoking.

Anti-smoking campaigns have, for a very long time, approached the subject of quitting smoking by encouraging full-on abstinence – where a smoker drops smoking completely and replaces the nicotine provided by cigarettes with nicotine in gums or patches to curb withdrawal symptoms until the smoker has quit smoking entirely and never picks up on smoking ever again. Supporters of full-on abstinence argue that electronic cigarettes constitute a risk to human health and must be banned from being sold or strictly controlled as a “drug delivery device.”

Sometimes called the “quit smoking or die” approach, the idea of full-on abstinence worked to help decrease the number of smokers in the past, however, studies have shown that interest in the approach has waned – due in part to the fact that many smokers nowadays don’t really want to quit the habit in the first place and see such methods merely as an annoyance.

Why? Well, there are many reasons.

On Smoking on Airplanes

By Red Cruz April 5, 2012 No comments

More and more these days, the promise of being able to smoke anywhere with electronic cigarettes is being broken – not by the manufacturers but by authorities who are concerned about the safety of these devices. Major cities like Boston, Massachusetts have passed legislation banning the use electronic cigarettes in some places.

Last September 2011, the Department of Transportation raised concern over the need to ban electronic cigarette usage in aircraft after an altercation involving a man from Utah who was enraged when flight attendants did not allow him to use his electronic cigarette on the airplane. The man was arrested but later released from jail pending the resolution of the federal case filed against him.

The Department of Transportation’s concern over the incident has led to them proposing a rule to ban electronic cigarette usage on all flights within and coming to and from the United States. This proposal has alarmed electronic cigarette communities, as electronic cigarette users will lose their way of obtaining their regular dosage of nicotine, which can be especially bothersome on longer international flights.

Here at TigCig.com, we encourage all our users to abide by whatever rules are in place in your area, however, we understand the plight of electronic cigarette users with regard to the ban on electronic cigarette usage on long flights. While the Department of Transportation’s proposal still remains a proposal, we’d like to offer a few tips to help our customers, especially those from the U.S. use their electronic cigarettes on flights without running into any problems.

Smoking On-the-Go

One of the best things about electronic cigarettes is their convenience. It’s such a blessing sometimes that they don’t produce ash or end up as cigarette butts that need to be properly disposed of, and it can really make using an electronic cigarette a pleasure. It’s also great that electronic cigarettes don’t produce smoke that might be offensive to other people as this means that you can smoke in places you won’t otherwise be allowed to smoke in. It’s great to be able to be around the people you love without putting them at risk of serious health problems from secondhand smoke.

Electronic cigarettes, however, offer another convenience with the help of a useful accessory. Because electronic cigarettes can be used almost anywhere and are very accessible, it isn’t uncommon for them to see heavy use throughout the day. An electronic cigarette battery can probably last you for the whole day, but there might be times when you might not access to a means to charge your battery for more than a day. Say, for example, you’re on a long train ride or a long flight with no access to a power outlet and your laptop is out of battery so you can’t charge your electronic cigarette via a USB adaptor either. Or maybe you’re just such a heavy user that you find your electronic cigarette batteries don’t last for the whole day. What do you do then?
